Letter: Masonic queries

AS A non-Freemason I must confess that I find Tom Minogue's letter (23 July) informative. My personal experience is that the influence of Freemasonry in Scotland was corrosive in business and local authority affairs.

The silence of blanket omerta on abuse of money matters was especially pervasive.

The very fact that Minogue's letters ever see the light of day is in itself a huge step forward.

But, with for instance, the godfatherly sharing out of the contracts for the Scottish Parliament in our recent past and the omerta surrounding those aspects of the whole affair, Scotland still has much cleaning up to do.
