Letter: Marital split

I AM grateful that Thomas Steuart Fothringham believes it is good to share (Letters, 12 January). To continue the analogy, I share my house with my wife.

However, I wouldn't think much of her if, because of black gold being discovered under her side of the marital bed, she decided to seek a divorce and end our union.

Similarly, sharing an island is like sharing a house.

Dividing people that share that island seems to me a regressive move.

As the terms Scottish and English are purely geographic, they should be kept, but the boundary between them on the Tweed/Solway line should not become a barrier.

So long as it remains a democracy i.e. each adult with one vote, our house, for the vast majority on this island, will remain the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
