Letter: Lib Dem losers

It comes to something that the voices joining the constitutional debate and calling for more responsibilities for the Scottish Parliament are several prominent Labour politicians and a former Conservative Prime Minister (Sir John Major] known for his impeccable opposition during his time in office.

It is in stark contrast to the position of the Liberal Democrats, whose position is now the most constitutionally conservative of all the three London parties -even when those not bound by cabinet-responsibility or the whips of Westminster.

Whatever happened to the party of home rule and maximising the powers of the Scottish Parliament?

It seems those "principles" have gone the same way as their "principled" stand against increasing tuition fees, introducing early cuts and opposing a VAT increase.

No wonder the Liberal Democrat vote is evaporating in Scotland. The party's new constitutionally conservative position is symbolic of why it is losing droves of votes and squads of councillors.
