Letter: Let the police do what they do best

WHAT a brilliant feature by Tom Wood, former Deputy Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders police (Insight, 5 September).

He is speaking as an experienced practical police officer, who served prior to the introduction of political gimmicks and "pussy-footing" guidance from people who had never seen an angry man, but want "statistics" to look good. Let the police get back to basics and do the job they are paid to do, and let all those who want to be everything except police officers get out and look for another vocation, because many are in the wrong dreel.
