Letter: Learning Scots

THE report on Dundee's "distinctive dialect" (29 July) states that "studies have suggested strong links between speaking two languages… and resisting dementia".

This is one of the many reasons for learning Scots, the language of which Dundonian is a dialect. Others rate the increase in social cohesion, self-expression and a sense of identity.

How else is a Scots person to be recognised if it is not that he or she knows Scots, in the same way as the French or German peoples are defined?
