We WERE very saddened to hear about the death of a young woman outside the Caledonian Hilton in Edinburgh's Lothian Road (your report, 14 October).

Every suicide is a tragedy and that's why Samaritans' trained volunteers are available 24/7 to offer confidential, non-judgmental support to anyone experiencing emotional distress, including suicidal feelings. We believe that talking about your situation can help alleviate despair.
