Letter: Hard to beat

I completely agree with Alex Salmond's proposal to cut "boundaries before bobbies" (your report, 18 October).

In the midst of tough budget cuts, police forces would be able to cut admin and support staff before being forced to reduce the numbers of police on our streets.

Considering that one of the eight police forces currently in effect in Scotland already accounts for almost half of the population, it seems ludicrous that the other half is managed by seven other authorities and shows that one force can manage large numbers.

Budget cuts are inevitable, however. At least this way we are able to keep police on our streets and help the public feel safer in the community, something that is craved by everyone.
