Letter: Hands off

I HAD to read twice the suggestion that Edinburgh council should take over the city's airport (Letters, 15 October). Has the tram fiasco not shown what a disaster councils are at running large projects?

This same council let a new airport terminal be built on the opposite side of the railway track, hence no rail service into the city. Two major international airports, Edinburgh and Glasgow, have railway lines within easy reach.

Whilst I think the BAA monopoly should be broken up, Edinburgh council taking over the airport would be a nightmare. The bottom line is where does the money come from? I assume it would have to be the already overburdened taxpayer.
