Letter: Good governance

Ron Greer (Letters, 12 January) in his attack on Alex Salmond appears to have missed the fact that the SNP has shown far more competence in government than Labour did, which I note that few critics have attempted to deny.

Though I am a lifelong supporter of the SNP, my mentioning of what is hardly a great achievement by the SNP does not amount to hagiography.

I cannot be the only one who hoped to be able to say much more than this. Frankly, I lament the abysmal state of Scottish politics. Nobody in his senses could want the Scottish Labour Party in its present state to become the national government for any reason except ironclad anti-SNP prejudice.

What has become of the high hopes that attended the establishment of our proud devolved Scotland?
