Letter: Global economics

Abstract romanticism of left-of-centre theorists like Gerry Hassan fails to grasp harsh economic realities (Perspective 28 May). If "crisis economics" teaches anything, it is that no nation is immune from the forces of global capitalism.

All political forms whether "independent" or "unionist" will be influenced and, in fact, shaped by global finance capitalism.

This is the harsh economic reality political theorists, commentators and politicians have to face up to.

There is no economy in the world, advanced, emerging or underdeveloped that is free from the global financial crisis or will escape the next.
