Letter: Give us our say

Otto Inglis (Letters, 16 October) correctly points out that no mainstream European political party of any EU member state is prepared to run the risk of a referendum on their continued EU membership.

Politicians are embarked on the creation of a post-democratic new world order, with the EU as the governing force, and the electorate are merely a nuisance to their plans. The justification for their view is the decreasing turnout at any election, and particularly those involving the EU. The apathetic electorate of Europe is therefore about to receive what it deserves: governance by unaccountable bureaucracy.
