Letter: Get us out

European Union rules have forced us to take a vital contract away from a railway rolling-stock manufacturer in Derby and give it to German firm Siemens, (your report, 6 July) so losing the UK thousands of jobs.

EU fishing controls have all but destroyed our fishing industry and our farmers are also suffering badly from EU policies.

Our courts make daft enough decisions on their own, but, even when they get it right, they are overruled by European courts.

The EU's finances are very suspect, with auditors refusing to pass them for years now.

Meanwhile, millions of euros have been spent rescuing Ireland and Greece from financial crises, with possibly Portugal and Spain to follow. Although not in the eurozone, the UK is also expected to help.

We are soon to charge English students prohibitive fees to attend Scottish universities, yet students from the EU will continue to study - very appropriately - scot-free, although our education system depends largely on English subsidies.

The sooner the UK gets out of the EU, the better for us all, yet, as a Scot, I fear our pro-Europe Scot Nat MSPs will bind Scotland even more closely to that bloated, bloodsucking behemoth.
