Letter: Fuelling demand

James Shearer (Letters, 17 January) is correct about filling up. When I worked as a sales representative, it was a company rule that all vehicles had to be filled with petrol at the end of each day.

If everybody did this now, it would serve to transfer petrol stocks to motor vehicles, instead of leaving them in garage forecourts, to be suddenly bought by people who usually drive around with near empty fuel tanks. It is this that causes supply shortages.
