Letter: Folly, by George!

George Galloway's appearance in the Big Brother house predicated a need for public recognition. Just as predictable is his attempt to propel himself back into the public consciousness. People will believe him when he asserts: "I'm not looking for this position because I need the wages." (your report, 17 January).

What Mr Galloway needs is attention. His foolish antics in the Big Brother house, where he humiliated himself, may offer a clue. Always good with a one-liner, he should have reflected on his antics before he said "Salmond and Gray are the political equivalent of the Krankies".

Holyrood is far from perfect, but given its relative inexperience, it's not doing too badly in comparison with the "exclusive club" at Westminster.

I have much admiration for some of Mr Galloway's rhetoric, and his dissection of the US Senate was a work of art, but as indicated by his publicity stunts he, like the rest of us, is flawed.

Mr Galloway is against nuclear weapons and war. He is also against independence for Scotland - the only way we can distance ourselves from these follies.
