Letter: Fitting tribute

It IS welcome news that the Humanist Society of Scotland has been granted permission to lay a wreath at Edinburgh's Stone of Remembrance on behalf of non-religious servicemen and women. The Royal British Legion Scotland deserves to be praised for making this decision.

For too long now, Remembrance ceremonies have been dominated by religious organisations that do not represent the thousands of non-religious servicemen and women who died fighting for our country. They deserve to be represented with the same respect and dignity.

It does not surprise me that Scotland is the first home nation to provide proper representation at Remembrance ceremonies for all our brave servicemen and women. The other home nations should follow our example.
