Letter: First female faces

Responding to your feature, "Return of the Golden Girls" (14 January) Russell Cowe (Letters, 16 January) stated that Mary Marquis was not a continuity announcer with Border TV when it started, and that Border TV didn't start until 1963.

In fact, Ms Marquis was with Border on the opening day of transmission in September 1961 and featured on the cover of TV Times that very week, along with Derek Batey, Maurice Lindsay and Fiona Cumming.

Maurice Lindsay, better known as a poet, was the first presenter of the local news magazine programme.

I was surprised at the omission of STV news journalist Sheila Duffy from your feature "Women on TV. . . where are they now?" She was one of the very first reporters on STV in the 1960s.
