Letter: Film festival roles

WITH reference to your article about the Edinburgh International Film Festival (5 April), I would like to clarify the role of the artistic advisers and to assure you that none of them has parted company with the festival (not least Tilda Swinton, who is a patron). They have instead fulfilled their voluntary creative roles, in keeping with our exciting plans for a dynamic evolution of the event this year.

We have been extremely lucky to have Mark Cousins, Lynda Myles and Tilda Swinton involved with the festival in an artistic and advisory capacity. They have now handed over their creative blueprint of ideas to us, and it forms the foundation of the 2011 programme. This job is done, and their collective vision is now with James Mullighan, director of the festival, and his team to deliver in terms of festival format, content and programme.

None of the advisers has therefore parted company with the festival, since there was never any expectation that they would be involved in its day-to-day running, although they remain on-going and valuable advisers.
