Letter: Fighting on foot

Thank you for publicising the efforts being made to preserve the sites of Scotland's famous battles (13 December). However, it was a pity you used the familiar picture of Robert Bruce mounted, when Bruce actually fought the Battle of Bannockburn on foot.

His brilliant tactic of placing a line of infantry across the Carse of Balquhiderock between the Pelstream and Bannock Burns on the second day of battle - thus pinning down the English cavalry so they could not charge at full speed - could only have succeeded in that way.
