Letter: False boundaries

I have no idea whether Scotland needs a separate media watchdog or not and would expect that the decision on one would be made by informed, impartial experts.

It was with dismay I read that "the chair of the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) opposed the idea of creating a separate media watchdog for Scotland" (your report, 13 September). Barrister Peta Buscombe justifies her position based on the argument of creating "some sort of artificial boundary in the global environment".

Therefore, it was necessary to have "a clear code of practice that applies… across the UK". If we do truly live in a global environment then it is hard to see how Scotland is an artificial boundary yet the UK is not. Maybe she inadvertently disclosed her politics with her remark.
