Letter: Fair decision

Unfortunately for Michael Kelly (Perspective, 3 March), the judge in the Christian fostering case, as in all the other similar cases, got it exactly right.

Mr Kelly calls the decision an insult to Christian beliefs and Christian conscience.

On the contrary, the decisions are based in the context of a fair society where all people are treated equally under the law, with no special privilege for believers, and faith is not a sufficient reason in itself to enable primitive prejudice and discrimination against law-abiding citizens.

Simply having a belief in supernatural phenomena does not automatically allow you to circumvent democratically passed laws for any reason, never mind by claiming discrimination.

It is a sad day indeed for Christianity that Christians choose to make such an issue of bearing witness to their faith by demanding the right to discriminate and practise prejudice against their fellow citizens. I suspect it's not what their Jesus would do.
