Letter: Expensive folly

Does anyone with an ounce of common sense believe that the 10 per cent hike in the cost of the Edinburgh tram project (your report, 18 June) will be the end of the story?

It has recently been reported that two-thirds of the budget has been spent on one-fifth of the project.

By my calculation, that means that Edinburgh Council will be liable to pay more than 1 billion to continue this project.

In my view, any further over-run should be charged to the councillors and council officials who are pursuing this folly.
