Letter: Electricity supply, a case for future powers that be

YOUR comparison of the major parties ( Insight, 2 May) omitted an important issue: electricity supply. That would have shown that only the Tories and Labour plan to encourage the construction of new nuclear power stations to try to avoid damaging blackouts, even though none could be in operation before 2017.

By that year, Scotland will have lost half its nuclear generation with the closure of Hunterston B. Renewable generation will never provide either a reliable or adequate alternative.
