May I correct the article regarding Columba's place in the history of Scotland (your report, 6 June)? Clearly the visit to Edinburgh of a certain man from Rome on St Ninian's Day last year was lost on you.

Ninian, of course, got to Edinburgh 150 years before that young upstart from Iona.
