Letter: Dignified view

RICHARD Lucas (Letters, 11 February) claims that "the secular materialist view of humans strips us of our dignity as free and morally accountable agents".

In fact the materialist, free will-denying view of humans is Marxist and Marxism is simply a religion with an omnipotent state in place of an omnipotent God.

Both views are false and irrational. Our free will and moral accountability are the logical consequence of our rational nature.
