Letter: Crippled by a lack of political talent

TAVISH Scott's claims re David Cameron's alleged attitude to Scotland (News, 19 September) demonstrate that he does not appreciate the coalition's problem: the dearth of talent on the government benches in Scotland with only 12 MPs.

What else would explain the appointment, as Secretary of State, of Michael Moore - someone who could not warrant even the lowliest post in the initial round of government appointments and arrived on the scene as virtually the only possibility following the David Laws affair.

The Conservative vote in Scotland at 413,000 was a mere 53,000 behind the Lib Dems, who in turn were only 26,000 behind the SNP. On these figures only Labour, on 1,035,000, can take much comfort from the Scottish results.
