Letter: Concrete jumble

You report that to save more than £127 million in the next five years, Aberdeen City Council is considering closing seven primary and secondary schools, and every art gallery, museum and public park (26 October).

It also wants to spend 100m (plus 50m from Sir Ian Wood) to raise the level of the Union Terrace gardens valley and to cover much of it with concrete.

Despite substantial citizen opposition, the plan is supported and defended by the chief executive Sue Bruce, who departs soon (after only two years) to become Edinburgh Council's chief executive. Let us hope she will not propose the same vandalism to Princes Street Gardens.
