Letter: Climate puzzler

James MacDonald (Letters, 16 August) wonders how climate change sceptics will explain the recent extreme conditions in Russia and Pakistan.

I would be much more interested to know how the global warming zealots will fit these short-term events into their long-term predictions, but I have no doubt that they will find a way.

I expect that the members of the carbon-trading industry will be incorporating these events into their next prospectus.
