Letter: Climate myths

Clark Cross (Letters, 12 September) never tires of repeating the urban myth that “the earth’s temperature has declined over the past decade”, and cites as a starting point 1998 – an exceptional El Niño year.

Take out the El Niño effect, and include the heat content of the oceans, and it becomes clear that the earth’s temperature has increased, not declined. This has all been explained to climate change deniers ad nauseam but, like creationists, they ignore it as they misinterpret, misrepresent and cherry-pick the data to fit their conspiracy theory. It would be pathetic, even laughable, if it were not so serious.
