Letter: Clear advantage

So, yet another blunder from Scottish Qualifications Authority (your report, 4 August). I suppose by now we should not be surprised.

What struck me, however, from your article is the interesting comment that those pupils who received texts a day early would not have any advantage "as university clearing does not start until 9am on Thursday".

Where I live, three miles west of Dunfermline and less than 20 miles from Edinburgh, we rarely see our post before noon. It frequently comes after 2pm and has, on occasion, been delivered as late as 6.30pm.

Surely university clearing should start no earlier than a day after all results are delivered, or those receiving texts and those lucky enough to live in areas where post still arrives before 9am (are there any?) have a big advantage over others.
