Letter: Chimp too old

ON reading about the death of Cheetah, the chimp that starred in the Tarzan films in the 1930s (your report, 29 December), I was surprised to learn that the animal supposedly lived until the age of 80 before dying of kidney failure.

I’d love to know how he lived a good 20 years beyond the average life span of a chimp in captivity – and 40 in the wild. Is it possible there was more than one Cheetah in existence?
