Letter: Case for reform

Audit Scotland's review of the Scotland-wide free bus travel scheme makes a strong case for reform (your report, 7 October).

One of the major flaws of the scheme is many of the 2.6 million passenger journeys provided by the community and voluntary sector in Scotland for some of our most frail and disabled citizens have to be paid for by people who are entitled to free bus travel but cannot use their concession.

At the same time, public money is being used to pay for free travel for people in their early to mid 60s who are fit, able-bodied, and in work - indeed, often at the very peak of their earning potential.
