Letter: Care home fees

Further to the many recent reports about Southern Cross care homes (12 July) I feel compelled to share my experiences.

My mother-in-law has been resident in Murrayfield House Care Centre since 2003. The care has been excellent and the home is well maintained and well staffed.

My mother-in-law is a self-funder and the fees are 913.91 per week in addition to "Free Personal and Nursing Care Fees" the home receives. The fees have been rising steadily over the years. I would be appalled if they were to rise further when a new operator takes over. There must be a better way of funding care for the elderly.
