Letter: Capital's car plan

I contacted Edinburgh Council regarding a development of flats in Millar Crescent last week, as there are no car parking spaces provided with the flats. The reply stated that the development was granted as it is "car-free", meaning there are no provisions for parking.

The explanation given by the council was that "this approach was supported due to the location of the development, and the fact that a contribution to the City Car Club was provided in order to discourage car ownership".

The developer makes a contribution to the City Car Club and this stops the potential purchasers from buying and using cars.

Why not also stop fitting toilets as there is a public facility only 100 yards away?

Is there any doubt left about the way our politicians and planners work and think?
