Letter: Cancer care

I WAS interested to read about Aberdeen's proposed and "much required" Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre (your report, 19 February).

Maggie's Centres do wonderful work, but it's worth pointing out that while Aberdeen does not at present have a Maggie's Centre, a local charity, CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen and North), based in Aberdeen, has for many years supported people with cancer and their families.

CLAN provides counselling, information, therapy and practical advice to people in Grampian, Orkney and Shetland.

They also offer accommodation at minimal cost and transport to hospital, particularly important for those who have to travel from the Northern Isles for cancer treatment in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

CLAN is also fund-raising to build new premises where they can continue their good work, which has always been very generously supported by people in Grampian and the Northern Isles.
