Letter: Cameron's big con

David Cameron's "big society" is the biggest political con since Tony Blair said Saddam Hussein had WMD ready to launch in 45 minutes.

The Big Society can be summed up thus: close all local services, libraries, cleansing, care services, youth centres, post offices and anything else that can't be privatised, fire all the people who work there, then offer them their jobs back on a voluntary basis.

David Cameron's idea comes straight out of a Dickens novel. He wants to bring back 19th-century notions of welfare, with the deserving and undeserving poor. Those deemed feckless or women of "loose morals" will be left to fend for themselves.
