Letter: Call this fairness?

As a parent earning just over the higher tax cut-off, and with a partner in a part-time, low-paid job, I am not arguing "the better-off" shouldn't pay more, or that our family should continue to receive child benefit.

However, I am arguing that if we are no longer eligible for child benefit, families earning up to 30,000 more than us should not be eligible either.

For those who argue that the expense of raising children should rest solely with the parents, I trust that their argument extends to old age - that it would also be unfair to expect my children to support the older adults of the future when they have parents of their own to care for?

And finally, without meaning to undermine the impact Tory policy will have on women generally, I would like to point out that I am a woman and my low-earning partner is a man!
