Letter: Bullet time

Part of the reason we have a financial crisis in the UK and especially Scotland is the size of the state employment sector. The numbers were unsustainable, and growing, before the crisis, and now the unions want to maintain this, in the face of the obvious damage it is doing.

The private sector has not gone through recent troubles simply to support top-heavy state employment. There are too many people employed by the government and its various arms. So let's stop kidding ourselves and bite the bullet.

Scotland cannot recover on the back of public employment - we need to generate our growth by creating wealth, not recycling it over and over.

The unions damaged Scotland more severely than Maggie in the past. Let us not permit them to do it again.
