Letter: Battle of sciences

I WAS astonished to read Professor John Brown (Letters, 10 April) accusing scientists of a "fanatical obsession over what other people believe and the arrogance of setting oneself up to save them from themselves". Surely this is precisely what the religious do, especially Christians? In that case, why shouldn't science fight like with like?

As to Martin Rees accepting the Templeton prize, it's rather like the Pope accepting the secularist of the year award.
