Letter: Bad role model

So, John McTernan (Comment, 14 September) believes Scotland should take England as a role model. Presumably that would be the England that is part of the United Kingdom whose economy - according to official figures - was in deficit over the last four years by a total of £72.3 billion.

Over the same period, and according to the same source, Scotland saw a surplus totalling 3.5bn. Perhaps Scotland might be a role model for the whole of the UK, but the other way around? I don't think so.
