Letter: A9 dangers

Harald Tobermann (Letters, 17 November) takes a simplistic view to the A9 statistics. While it is true that the numbers of accidents per mile are similar for both single and dual carriageway stretches, accidents on the single carriageway tend to involve head-on collisions, which are much more serious.

Dualling reduces the severity of the accidents, and because many are caused by fatigue, the shortened journey times of a completely dualled road between Perth and Inverness would also reduce the numbers of accidents.
