Letter: A toast to Boris

Ewan Crawford (Perspective, 29 July) tells us that Boris Johnson, presently Mayor of London, is favourite to succeed David Cameron as prime minister, and that if he did so this could have huge implications for the people of Scotland winning the referendum on independence, which takes place in 2014.

This would indeed be a great coincidence, as the beginning of Scotland's subjugation to London rule began on 1 May, 1707 with the Treaty of Union, and could see our regaining our independence in three years' time, thanks to a Mayor of London.
