Letter: A life well lived

I WANT to shout from the roof-tops so the world can hear the name of that wonderful girl Linda Norgrove, who was killed in Afghanistan (your report, 11 October). Could there be a better example of a life well lived?

The contrast between her simple island life until she went to university and the lives of most of our urban children and teenagers could not be more clear. Similarly, her years of travel and study, her intellectual achievements, beginning in a tiny Scottish school, her concern and her work for others speak volumes for her character and the quality of her family, her teachers and the island society of her early years. She was only 36. But she had travelled in ten or 11 countries, achieved the highest standards in everything she did and had won the respect of those who knew her.

I hope Linda Norgrove's name will never be forgotten. How proud her family must be of her.
