Leading stance

Dan Higgins (Letters, 13 December) needs to be reminded that it has not been an uncommon practice in the Labour Party to have no election process and to “shoo in” a new leader. I refer to the coronation of Gordon Brown, who felt it his right to take over the helm from Tony Blair.

Nicola Sturgeon has at least been given the recognition of being the most trusted party leader in the UK and has had many years as deputy leader. The SNP must have felt that she was the right person for the job, therefore no other candidates stood. I’m sure there will be those who think no-one else was allowed to stand. Surely No voters must concede that an audience of 12,000, paying for their tickets to see her, can’t all be wrong.
