Leading question

WE HAVE not been supporters of the Scottish Conservatives in the past, but it will be a fortunate party which acquires Murdo Fraser as its leader.

We have nothing but praise for the way in which he supported his constituents over the Beauly to Denny Power Line, speaking out publicly in opposition to this ill-advised scheme, which we all knew would devastate our landscape and destroy historic sites.

While most of the other MSPs remained silent, ignoring their constituents who protested in huge numbers, he demonstrated courage and commitment.

Whatever the Conservatives in Scotland call themselves, it is time they had a refreshing change of tack and a leader of this calibre.

AS THE Labour Party in Scotland endeavours on a leadership election, it was interesting to learn the views of my MP on the matter.

Eric Joyce MP for Falkirk West is reported saying – unless Scottish Labour elects a Scottish politician as its leader in Scotland, no-one will listen to the party on Scottish issues.

How right Mr Joyce, as revealed in the 2011 election, no-one is listening to Labour even with a Scottish leader! Is Mr Joyce yet another unionist politician grasping the nettle of independence, calling for devolution max and full fiscal autonomy?
