ANDREW Dixon will no doubt make an excellent job of running Creative Scotland, judging by his credentials (your report, 13 February). However, it does raise the question as to why we Scots seem incapable of producing candidates capable of running our own Arts bodies.

Our National Theatre and various festivals, along with most of our theatres and numerous other arts bodies, are headed by administrators from south of the Border. Is it crossing the boundary of political correctness to ask why?

Perhaps there is a gap in our education system whereby the degree courses necessary to produce those with the necessary skills to undertake such roles are lacking in Scotland's universities, in which case our education secretary (and former culture minister) Mike Russell should be looking to make improvements.

Whatever the reason, it seems strange that a nation such as Scotland, which is rich in culture and punches well above its weight in the creative arts, should have become so Anglicised in terms of those in charge of our creative organisations.
