Leader: How to turn lotto record-breaker into a home win

LUCKY Largs, home of Colin and Chris Weir, the couple who scooped £161 million in Tuesday's EuroMillions draw.

The path to their door will now be beaten by financial advisers, charity hopefuls, car salesmen, psychologists, stress counsellors and all manner of folk, invisible for years but now offering home and garden services. Is 161 million too much? Even allowing for a holiday to see Ayers Rock and the purchase of a couple of extra houses, there's still 100 million more to take care of, accumulating interest with every day. So what might an all-Scottish shopping list comprise?

Our weather might not make Scotland the first choice for that dream home. But with some imagination, the problem could be overcome - like building a geodesic dome to embrace not just the perfect home and garden but acres of wildlife and rivers for trout fishing. Why fritter money on a yacht when a good Clyde steamer could be bought with full staff complement - together with an island to sail to? Don't like the TV programmes? Buy a studio and make your own. And why traipse to Milan for haute couture when Armani could be wooed to Largs? If the wheelie bin's not big enough to take all the gift wrappings, buy your own recycling centre and a wind farm big enough to light up Largs.
