The news that the SFA is in talks with its counterpart in England over a possible Scotland England game later this year (your report, 1 May) should be welcomed but only with great caution.

Yes, it is great for many of us who love football in Scotland to have another opportunity to test our skills against the auld enemy but the timing of any game must not be before the referendum on independence.

Football should have no place in causing any potential friction between supporters at a time when emotions will be high in Scotland. Football is a game. It is not politics.
