Thursday’s news that an MP had been involved in an alleged assault in the House of Commons raises an interesting question – why is there a bar in a workplace selling alcohol?

Now, I am no prude and like a drink now and again just as much as the next man, but I can think of no other work premises where alcohol would be tolerated.

Drivers are constantly told that even a pint of beer affects decision making and we constantly hear of late night sittings in the Houses of Parliament, yet MPs who are daily making decisions that affect our lives are allowed to drink on the job.
