Lack of breeding

Regarding the report (5 September) that a wild buffalo bullock has been sold in South Africa for more than £2 million, owner Jacques Malan stated that he applied a knowledge of genetics learnt from his father.

The purchaser intends to use the bullock for breeding.

He will be sorely disappointed in his investment, as a bullock is a bull which is castrated at a young age.

Perhaps this report should be reprinted on 1 April.
