Labour’s loss
WITH the virtual Westminster demise of the Scottish Labour Party, I am left wondering where the stalwarts of Labour are and where everything went wrong.
I am convinced that if John Smith had been alive today Labour would not be in the mess it is. He was a leader with great integrity and moral courage.
At the time of his untimely death Labour had a 20 per cent lead in the polls. I do not believe that if Smith had been Prime Minister he would have gone to war in Iraq, or been like Tony Blair, George W Bush’s poodle, which was the beginning of the end for Labour. Today, however, I cannot see anyone strong enough to lead a fightback.
